Week 2 is in the bag!
Half-marathon training, Week 2
Day 1 = Stretch & strength
Day 2 = 3 miles
Day 3 = 2 miles (interval training)
Day 4 = 3 miles + strength
Day 5 = rest
Day 6 = 30 minutes of cross training
Day 7 = 4 miles
And if I may say so myself, that 4 miler had nothing on me! Okay, maybe a bit exaggerated. :P Next…week 3. This is moving week too so we’ll see how it goes.
The five stages of running
An hour before running: I don't wanna run today.
5 minutes before running: I'm pumped! Let's do this!
While running: Can't breathe... Must keep going... Run to the rythm of my music... Don't die...
5 minutes after running: Everything's awesome! I love running! I could run for the rest of my life!
An hour after running: I. Am going. To die.

I got my butt kicked
Man, week 2 of half-marathon training sure is tough!
The first week, I was pumped and ready to start this grand adventure. But then week 2 came about. First thought was something along the lines of “really, I have to do this again? Wasn’t once enough?!”
Then again, I do love a challenge.
Today was what my husband and I like to call “attempt to kill Bailey day.”...

Week 1 done!

Day 2 = 3 miles
Day 3 = 2 miles (interval training)
Day 4 = 3 miles + strength
Day 5 = rest
Day 6 = 30 minutes of cross training
Day 7 = 4 miles
Done! 12 miles. 6 days of working out. It wasn’t easy but then again nobody said it would be. And it’s not over yet.
The workout plan for this coming week is the same but...

I’ve got this baby! (It still hasn’t hit me that I’m actually training for a half)

Crash
It finally happened, I fell today.
I’ve heard of it happening to other runners but always chalked it up to the terrain they were running on. You know - twigs, unpaved roads, a cute furry creature distracting you and causing you to crash in to a tree, etc.
Well today the pavement jumped out and got me!
Running up a hill, finishing my 3 mile run when bam…I found myself on the floor...

Let it begin!
Thanks to those that commented on my last post about running in Chicago! Keep the tips coming. I definitely plan to have a series of posts about the transition from the burbs to the city. Should be fun!
So yes…
I’m actually looking up half-marathon training plans to get me started (If I need to, I’ll tweak them as I go). [Picture terrified, yet excited facial expression]...

Running in Chicago...
Next month my husband and I will be moving to the City of Chicago. No more chicagloand for us…it’s the big time, the city!
While I’m excited for the change in atmosphere and new adventures, I’m a bit nervous about how I’ll continue my running routine. Silly question, huh?
Right now I run in parks, neighborhoods. For the most part it’s very quiet, no bustling...

Hectic...
It’s been a hectic couple of weeks.
Vacation in California ended, Vegas company trip, home, finalizing the apt. hunting in Chicago, sorting some family stuff, work, getting back into the daily routine…. the list goes on.
The one thing missing from all of this…running.
Yup, my running routine took a big hit. But! It’s never too late to start again so today was Day 1 of...

(Monday) Miles
Monday Miles
Total miles for last week = 5.6 miles
# of runs = 2
Average run = 2.8 miles
Goodness, time sure does fly! This week will be filled with traveling. California to Nevada and then finally to Chicago. Home! I was so fortunate that I was able to spend so much time with my family but I also can’t wait to sleep in my bed and be back in my routine.
Despite the upcoming traveling,...

Average run = 2.33 miles
Even got my mom to go out for three 2.5 mile walks this week. And according to her she’s “feeling great!” One week left in Cali, hopefully another week will help her build the habit of at least walking every now and then.

Mission accomplished
2011 was a pretty big year for me. The goal - to run! And crush all the things that held me back from running more than a mile (minor asthma, allergies, knee and ankle pain, etc.) Looking back, it’s super minor compared to what other runner’s overcome.
So how’d it go?
I now run every week, knees are feeling much better, hundreds of miles accomplished and three 5k races done! Last one for the...

(Extremely late) Monday Miles + to run or not to...
Total miles for last week = 2.25 miles
# of runs = 1
Average run = 2.25 miles
Talk about being late again! Goodness. This week, although I haven’t been posting, I have been running. So far, a 1 mile run and 2 mile run. + hiking, bike riding and lots of walking
So the question…to run or not to run?!
I was crazy and decided to look up 5k races in California (since I’m here...

Monday Miles (better late than never)
Total miles for last week = 6.25 miles
# of runs = 3
Average run = 2.08 miles
+ 7 miles on the bike
Average pace = 9:45
In hopes of actually running a bit this week, I squeezed in a 2.25 mile run (9:42 pace) in yesterday. Bam!

All about speed
Pumped out 2.25 miles at a pace of 9:40. Awesome pace. Not the fastest but super awesome for me.
Distance vs. speed has been something that I’ve debated about for some time. I know my body can handle distances longer than 3 miles. I just need to be in the right mind set. Furthest distance so far this year is 6 miles.
Speed…well, that’s a different story. My fastest mile is...

2 miles - done! Another good, solid run for the books.
Now, to start working on dinner. Do I have to!? This time of year is usually filled with lots of cooking and baking but not here. I’ve hit a major rut. No creative ideas at all. Or maybe I’m just being lazy. Goal of the weekend = run 3 miles + find a new recipe. So exciting, isn’t it?! :P
Speaking of baking and the...

Bikes are no joke
It’s been pouring all day here. Huge drops.
Headed to the gym but alas 2 of the 3 treadmills were out of order. 1 treadmill left so I decided to wait. Hopped on the bike in the mean time.
Yea, umm - dude who had already been there for while when I arrived decided to hog the thing the entire time. Not like there were 2 people waiting (including myself) or anything. But it’s...

Back in business! Run #...
Phew, I’ve gotta admit….it felt great to squeeze in a quick 2 mile run after work today. Work/life has been super busy lately and running gives me an out. Almost felt like shouting “I’m back!”
I’m still not feeling 100% better but I’m so much better than I was last week. I can breathe!
I was a bit nervous that I may have lost a lot endurance and that the...

# of runs = 1
Average run = 3.1 miles
Last but not least, November total:
29.3 miles total this month (about half of Oct’s >.<)
So, yea. I’m very late on all this. As I mentioned previously I hit a bit of a set back, I’ve been sick. I’m FINALLY starting to feeling better. Sinus/respiratory infections are no...

decided to run the race! It wasn’t my best race at all but I still had a wonderful time. 5k number two - done!
I must be crazy though, I’m still sick and couldn’t breath during half the race. Plus it was raining. No worries. Doc appointment is already scheduled for Monday although I’m sure that with my luck I’ll be almost through this bad cold by the time I see the...

Time flew by
My second 5k is tomorrow morning! And I’m *crossing fingers* I’ll wake up well enough to run.
All week I’ve been fighting a bad chest cold so I haven’t put in any time towards training. I’m actually really bummed. I’ve run with bad allergies and it usually doesn’t go too badly but a chest cold is so different, it totally affects my breathing. But today I...

Monday Miles
As predicted…
Monday Miles:
Total miles for last week = 0 miles
# of runs = 0
Average run = 0 miles
…but it was certainly a wonderful vacation/holiday! Although, I did strain a muscle during bowling, banged my knee in the pool and caught a cold (w/ a sore throat).
No limping today which is awesome but I need to get rid of this sore throat/cold/thing so I can get some runs in...

Monday Miles
Monday Miles:
Total miles for last week = 16.5 miles
# of runs = 5
Average run = 3.3 miles
(All estimated mileage.) Talk about a boost from last week! The best part - I never felt like i was overdoing it but I certainly felt like I was giving it my all. Strength training has certainly helped. If I can keep this up then half marathon training may be in the schedule for 2012 after all.

It's official
I’m running my 2nd 5k! Just registered for the Chilli Chilly race. Beer and chilli post race. Hells yes!
Dear Bailey, Congratulations! You are now registered for the Chilly Chili 5K - Running-5K. Please check the event’s website for updates.
Receipts
Thank goodness I save receipts. A year or so ago, it would have been straight in the trash but after going on trips for work and having to save my receipts for reimbursements…well the habit stuck.
I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me. My Nike+ sportband is under warranty. Duh! Going to store on Thursday.
A new sportband should cover me until I make a decision on getting a...

Running watches
So I’m in the market for a new running watch. Was previously using the Nike+sportband. I liked the simplicity but (due to sweat - gross) it won’t connect to my computer. Plus I’m in the market for something that is more accurate and has a few more features.
First inclination was towards Garmin. But then I came across this thing - Motoactv. Reviews, however, are hard to come by....
In case you needed another incentive to run...

Hey Libby! How are ya?
Weekly miles were definitely a very nerdy idea to me at first but honestly it’s one of the few things that have actually helped me remain consistent in my running. Nothing like public accountability.
